Case 4: The Netherlands

Case 4a: BeTR (Ben Rutten Technology Research, partner of the project), will be the coordinator of this case study, with the support of INNO associated with TomTom and the InnovatieCentrale (stakeholder Advisory Board, that enrols Rijkswaterstraat, Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment). This test bed includes a 70km long test track highway for self-driving cars managed by InnovatieCentrale. This is an existing road between Helmond and Tilburg in the Netherlands with hybrid communication, cellular and wifi-11p, where the performance of the work packages related to monitoring (especially WP4) and the SAFEWAY IT platform (WP7) can be tested before its validation in the previously mentioned case studies.

Case 4b: Europoort Rotterdam is a section point between North Sea-Baltic, Rhine-Alpine and North Sea-Mediterranean corridors. That makes it a critical hub of the TEN-T Core Network, by being the start/end point of these three corridors. The extensive intermodal transportation network of rail, inland shipping, road, short sea and pipelines gives to the port of Rotterdam a unique intermodal character. This makes it an appropriate testing ground and gives multiple possibilities for the expected SAFEWAY solutions to be demonstrated. As the expected impact includes actions to contribute to an improvement of smooth continuity of mobility of both people and freight, the Port of Rotterdam will be a part of the Dutch pilot to measure the efficiency of SAFEWAY solutions on freight. The demonstration possibilities include: DEMO software and IT platform solutions; Design-and-Built validation tool for quay walls; Smart Port research on Big Data for predictive maintenance of quay walls.
